Men’s Rowing To Open Spring Campaign Against Brown
March 24, 2023 | Men's Rowing
BOSTON – The Boston University men's rowing program ignites the 2023 spring schedule with a dual race against Brown in a Michalson Cup matchup on Saturday (March 25) on the Charles River.
Saturday's race is available to watch on ESPN+, requiring a subscription. Fans can watch online as well as through the ESPN app with the subscription. The broadcast begins with the BU women's and lightweight races against MIT and Boston College, respectively, earlier in the morning.
BU opens the spring portion of its schedule after finishing 10th overall at the 2022 IRA Championships, highlighted by the third varsity eight's first-place result in the Petite Final. At the Head of the Charles in the fall, the Terriers' Championship 4+ and 8+ placed ninth and 18th, respectively.
The Terriers' roster features five graduate students, five seniors, nine juniors, 12 sophomores, and 16 freshmen. Head Coach Thomas Bohrer is in his 15th season at the helm, most recently receiving a multi-year contract extension back in December.
Entering the spring slate, BU is ranked 11th in the IRCA/IRA Men's Heavyweight Varsity 8+ Poll. BU's first foe, Brown, is fifth. All eight of the schools the Terriers square off against this spring are ranked in the top 25.
Saturday marks the first dual race between BU and Brown for the Michalson Cup since 2019. The two programs squared off alongside Navy last spring in Princeton, N.J., with the Bears' V8 finishing in a time of 5:52.47 to beat the Terriers' 5:57.70. Back in 2019, BU's V8 clocked in just under two seconds of the Brown crew, handing the Bears their second Michalson Cup in a row. The Michalson Cup was added to the race series in 1984, 25 years after the first all-time meeting between BU and Brown.
