Lightweight Rowing Coaching Staff Earns CRCA Regional Accolades
June 9, 2023 | Women's Lightweight Rowing
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Boston University Lightweight Rowing Head Coach Malcolm Doldron was selected as the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division I Lightweight Regional Coach of the Year, the organization announced earlier in the week of June 5.
In addition, the Boston University coaching staff was selected as the Division I Lightweight Regional Staff of the Year. This marks the first regional award for both Doldron and the Terrier staff. Rounding out BU's personnel is Assistant Coach Elizabeth Hughes, Boatman Russ Cone, Strength & Conditioning Coach Glenn Harris, and Assistant Head Athletic Trainer Rachel Geohagen.
Regional awards are voted on by the membership of the CRCA. The Regional Coach of the Year Award is intended to recognize a head coach that fits one or more of the following criteria: outstanding success during the current season, demonstrated great team improvement from the prior season, fulfilled team's potential and demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity as a coach. The Staff of the Year Award is intended to recognize those whose teams have had outstanding success throughout the current season and have demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity as coaches.
Doldron and staff recently completed a 2022-23 season where the Terriers finished second at the IRA National Championship Regatta on the first weekend in June. BU's Lightweight 4 and Double each captured bronze medals in the national championship, guiding BU to 57 team points for its second-consecutive runner-up performance.
Outside of the IRAs, BU collected six combined gold medals across the Dad Vail Regatta (Varsity 8, Collegiate 2x), Eastern Sprints (Lightweight 4, "B" Double), and Knecht Cup (Lightweight 8, Lightweight 4). The Terrier V8 also dispatched Harvard-Radcliffe and MIT on April 8 to capture its sixth-straight Beanpot trophy. In dual races against Stanford, Boston College, and Bates, BU won six out of the eight total events.
