
Terriers Place Third at Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Boston University women's cross country team ran to a third place finish in the 6K invite at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh on Saturday. Five Terriers finished among the top-100 runners to help BU surpass a program receiving votes in the USTFCCCA coaches poll.
In their program-best performance in the women's gold 6K event, the Terriers combined for 176 points to earn the third place finish. No. 24 Utah Valley won the race with 77 points and Wake Forest took second with 129 points. BU placed ahead of Penn State (182 points) who received votes in the most recent USTFCCCA coaches poll, making them the No. 34 program in the nation.
BU was led by freshman Hannah Prosser who placed second overall with a time of 19:59.1 in just her second race as a Terrier. Close behind was sophomore Vera Sjöberg who finished ninth with a 20:30.8. Junior Daisy Liljegren was next in for BU with a 20:42.8, taking 18th in her season debut.
Freshmen continued to bring in scoring times for BU with Molly Kiley running a 21:30.1 to place 68th. Fellow first year Kelly Jones was not far behind, taking 79th with a time of 21:34.5. Rounding out the scoring for the Terriers were freshman Abby Waddington (21:59.2) in 132nd and sophomore Addison Schmidt (22:22.7) in 182nd.
Also racing in the invite were freshmen Kaitlyn Desio (22:29.5), Merem Gabriel-Rodriguez (22:50.9) and sophomore Samantha Seabury (22:56.8).
In the open 6K race, freshman Anna Fawcett led BU with a 22:59.0 to place 29th. Right behind her was sophomore Alex Vellekoop in 30th with a time of 23:01.2. Also competing were freshman Kelsey Niglio (23:34.0) in 61st, sophomore Lily Borin (24:14.0) in 115th and senior Marcela Perches (24:37.1) in 150th.
BU will race again at the IC4A/ECAC Championships in New York on Friday, Oct. 13.
