Kowalski Sets School Record, Leads Terriers at Suffolk Ice Breaker

BOSTON – Senior Emma Kowalski broke the school record in the weight throw as the Boston University track & field teams competed at the Suffolk Ice Breaker at The TRACK at New Balance on Saturday.

School Record

Kowalski led BU in its first event of the day with her school record-setting performance in the weight throw with a toss of 19.19m (62' 11"). She broke the previous record of 18.07m (59' 3.5") set in 2019 by Sarah Cicchetti.
Kowalski and sophomore Ellie Roan went back and forth setting the school record as Roan also surpassed the previous mark. Both Terriers also surpassed the meet record.
Kowalski's record is the second school record for BU this season.

Top-10 Terriers

Roan set the second-best mark in program history in the weight throw with a mark of 18.95m (62' 2").
Also setting top-10 marks in the weight throw were sophomore Uchenna Uba (16.68m (54' 8")) and senior Juliana Nakouzi (16.56m (54' 4")) who are fourth and fifth all-time, respectively.
Nakouzi continued her successful day in the shot put with a throw of 14.33m (47' 0.75") to tie the third-best mark in BU history.
Sophomore Peace Omonzane made her Terrier debut in the long jump with a mark of 6.04m (19' 9.75") to set the fourth-best mark in program history. Her mark also broke the meet and facility record.
Freshman Abigail Wagner set another PR in the pole vault by clearing 3.65m (11' 11.75"). She is tied for the second-best mark in BU history.
Junior Cole Tucker took first in the shot put with a throw of 16.61m (54' 6") to keep the 10th-best mark in BU history with the PR. He also set the meet record.

Notable Terriers

Freshman Dakota Wang made her Terrier debut in the high jump, jumping 1.55m (5'1").
Junior Cailey Spanitz set a personal best in the pole vault with a mark of 3.35m (10' 11.75").
Junior Ryan Rosenberger placed second in the long jump with a distance of 6.94m (22' 9.25") to surpass the meet record of 6.76m (22' 2.25").
Junior Steven Franco set a PR in the shot put with a mark of 14.01m (45' 11.75") and junior Sam Dennerlein also set a PR in the event with a 15.39m (50' 6").
