
Sophomores Impress on Final Day of John Thomas Terrier Classic

BOSTON - Sophomores Vera Sjöberg, Peace Omonzane and Ellie Roan of the Boston University women's track & field team highlighted day two of the John Thomas Terrier Classic at the TTC on Saturday.

Top 10 Terriers
- Sjöberg ran a 4:38.85 in the mile to set the third-fastest time in BU history. She is just the fourth Terrier in program history to break the 4:40 barrier in the mile. The sophomore now ranks eighth all-time in Swedish history in the indoor mile.
- Omonzane recorded a mark of 12.96m (42' 6.25") in the triple jump to win the event. She keeps the second-best mark in BU history with the PR and has thw 16th-best mark in the NCAA this season as of writing.
- Roan placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 14.02m (46' 0") to set the fifth best mark in BU history.
- Freshman Obiageli Akubude placed 13th in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 9.08 in her collegiate debut in the event.
- Akubude also led BU in the 200m dash with a 16th-place time of 25.04.
- Sophomore Imari Johnson ran 8.03 in the 60m dash to lead BU in the event.
- Sophomore Kate Edenson ran a personal best time in the 800m, crossing the finish line in 2:11.37. She just nearly missed the Top-10 Terrier list with the time.
- Freshman Molly Kiley (9:52.11) and sophomore Samantha Seabury (9:54.23) ran lifetime bests in the 3,000m.
- Freshmen Kelly Jones (4:55.86) and Adrienne Buettner-Cable (4:56.55) placed 61st and 64th, respectively, in the mile.
- Roan won the weight throw with a toss of 18.79m (61' 7").
- Junior Asia Hamilton led BU in the long and high jumps with marks of 5.73m (18' 9.75") and 1.60m (5' 3"), respectively.
- Penn's Isabella Whittaker broke the facility record and set the current No. 2 time in the world in the 400m with a 51.69. The previous facility record was 51.70 set in 2015 by Francena McCorory of Adidas.
- Kimberly May of Providence ran a 4:27.85 in the mile which is the seventh-fastest time in Division I history.
- Penn's 4x400m relay broke the facility record with a time of 3:32.44.
- Adding to Friday's excitement, six women also hit the Olympic standard in the 5,000m.
- This brings the total number of Olympic standards hit in the TTC to 17 in just the 5,000m alone.
- Josette Andrews (OAC) ran a 14:46.51 5,000m to set the second fastest indoor mark in American history.
- Courtney Wayment (On) 14:49.78 was the fifth-fastest 5,000m mark in American history.
- Sammy Watson (Adidas) set the world lead in the 500m with a time of 1:09.90.
- Ethiopian runner Senayet Getachew broke the U20 World Record in the 5,000m with a time of 14:42.94.
