Women’s Ice Hockey to Clash with No. 12/13 Northeastern this Weekend

BOSTON – The Boston University women's ice hockey team (1-2-0, 1-0-0 HE) is prepped for a home-and-home series with No. 12/13 Northeastern (2-2-0, 0-0-0 HE) this weekend. BU will travel to Matthews Arena Friday (Oct. 11) for a 7 p.m. game before hosting the Huskies on Saturday (Oct. 12) at Agganis Arena at 3 p.m.
Saturday's game is the first in a doubleheader with BU men's ice hockey which plays Union at 7 p.m. It will also feature a fan promotion for BU big chains. Tickets for Saturday's game can be purchased here.

TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers dropped a pair of games at No. 2 Minnesota (1-0, 5-2) last weekend.
- Juniors Lilli Welcke and Riley Walsh were the Terriers who found the back of the net against the Golden Gophers.
- Freshman Lola Reid and senior Maggie Hanzel recorded assists on Welcke's goal.
- The Terriers went 7-for-8 on the penalty kill in the series with a 4-for-4 performance in the 5-2 loss.
- Reid was named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday after logging four points from one goal and three assists in the opening week of her collegiate career.
- The Lincoln, Neb. native currently leads BU in assists with three and owns the game-winning goal against Merrimack.
- BU netminder Callie Shanahan made 40 saves in the first game against Minnesota for her third career 40-save game in net.
- Sophomore Mari Pietersen started in the second Minnesota game and made 20 saves for her fifth career game with 20+ saves.
- With the first week in the books, graduate student Tamara Giaquinto leads BU in blocks with nine.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Terriers are 32-34-9 overall against Northeastern with an 11-16-3 record on the road and a 14-16-3 record at home.
- In the most recent meeting, BU lost in overtime, 2-1, in the Beanpot finals on Jan. 23, 2024.
- BU and Northeastern last met at Matthews Arena on Oct. 7, 2023, when the Terriers dropped a 2-0 decision.
- Northeastern came out on top in the Dec. 1, 2023, game at Walter Brown 2-1 in overtime, the last time the Terriers hosted the Huskies.
- The last time BU defeated Northeastern was on Oct. 8, 2021, in a 2-1 outcome.
- BU and Northeastern have met at Agganis once before on Jan. 28, 2012, when BU won 3-2.
SCOUNTING THE HUSKIES
- Northeastern is 2-2 after it split its series with then-No. 12 Penn State and it series with then-No. 10/9 Quinnipiac.
- The Huskies defeated Penn State 3-1 to open the season and Quinnipiac 4-2 for their first win at home.
- In the loss to Quinnipiac, Northeastern was shutout, 3-0.
- This weekend's series will be the Huskies' Hockey East opener.
- Northeastern's leading goal scorer, Skylar Irving, has found the back of the net in each game that the Huskies have scored in. She went 1-for-1 on shots in the 2-1 loss to Penn State and the 4-1 win over Quinnipiac.
- Goaltender Paige Taborski has played all four games for the Huskies and has logged 102 saves with a single game high of 33 in the win over Quinnipiac. She has saved no fewer than 23 shots in the other three games.
