DeLaMater, Rived Earn Major PL Awards; Four Garner All-Conference Honors
November 7, 2024 | Men's Soccer
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After repeating as Patriot League regular season champions, the Boston University men's soccer team claimed multiple year-end awards for the second consecutive year, as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon. Four Terriers were also named to one of the top two All-Conference squads as well.
Junior Quin DeLaMater received the Terriers' third consecutive PL Defensive Player of the Year honor, while classmate Diego Rived garnered BU's first Midfielder of the Year award from a conference since 2008. Sophomore Andrea Di Blasio joined the duo in earning All-PL First Team recognition, and junior John Roman landed on the second team.
A native of Marietta, Georgia, DeLaMater helped the Terrier backline post four shutouts, highlighted by a clean sheet against then-No. 9 New Hampshire. He also tallied his first career nine points this fall with the total leading BU at the end of the regular season. Besides earning three assists, he scored a goal at Northeastern and Navy with the other successful strike occurring at home against Lafayette.
A native of Zaragoza, Spain, Rived was the only Terrier to start all 17 games in the regular season. He played a season-high 1,225 minutes directing traffic in the midfield and tallied a team-high three assists, including on the big game winner against Bucknell, alongside a goal. Besides helping the defense defend against corner kicks and long throw-ins, he also pressured opponents' backlines with a team-high 22 shot attempts and 10 shots on goal.
Di Blasio joined BU this year as a transfer from Syracuse and made his impact in conference play with three game-winning goals. The Brooklyn, New York, native earned a brace in a 3-2 victory over Army West Point before finding the back of the net against both Bucknell and Colgate in back-to-back contests. He also added an assist against Boston College to tie DeLaMater at nine points.
After coming back from injury, Roman made his presence felt in the backline. The 6-foot-4 defender from Bainbridge Island, Washington, played all 90 minutes in the shutout victories over Bucknell and Colgate. He also used his size to keep the Midshipmen off the scoreboard for the program's conference-high four PL win.
The Terriers will next host an opponent to be determined in the PL semifinals on Tuesday (Nov. 12). BU is currently riding a 21-game unbeaten streak (14-0-7) at Nickerson Field.
