
Sjöberg Named Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Buettner-Cable Joins Her on All-PL Academic Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Junior Vera Sjöberg was named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earned All-PL Academic honors and sophomore Adrienne Buettner-Cable joined Sjöberg on the All-PL Academic team, the league announced Friday morning.
Sjöberg goes back-to-back as the PL Scholar-Athlete of the Year after winning the Patriot League Cross Country Championships by over 30 seconds with a 19:45.9 time. The PL Outstanding Performer of the Meet, Sjöberg has only run sub-20 minute times on 6K courses this season, finishing second at the Paul Short Run and 11th at the Princeton Fall Classic. She was named PL Runner of the Week twice, was the Terriers' top finisher in all races and earned a spot on the First Team All-PL.
The Stockholm, Sweden native is pursuing a degree in English and has a 3.97 GPA.
Buettner-Cable is currently pursuing a biology degree and has a 4.00 GPA. The Des Moines, Iowa native was a scorer in every meet she ran for the Terriers, most notably finishing ninth overall at the PL Championships with a 21:03.3 time and taking home All-Patriot League Second Team honors. On top of that, Buettner-Cable clocked a 20:53.6 mark at the Princeton Fall Classic, going under the 21-minute threshold for the first time in her career, and was a scorer at the Paul Short Run with a 21:18.0 time. This is the sophomore's first PL Academic award.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in their sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
