Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Ice Hockey Falls to No. 11 UConn, 4-0

BOSTON - The Boston University women's ice hockey team dropped a 4-0 contest to No. 11 UConn on Friday evening at Walter Brown Arena.

The Terriers, who honored their senior class prior to the game, gave up the first goal in the closing moments of the opening period and were unable to get the puck past UConn netminder Tia Chan. The Huskies added another goal in the second period before scoring twice in the third en route to securing their first-ever Hockey East regular-season title.

BU moves to 14-16-3 overall and 12-13-1 in Hockey East play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • BU had the better of the play in the first period but mishandled the puck in the late stages of the frame, resulting in UConn opening the scoring with just 16 seconds left before intermission.
  • Kyla Josifovic provided what would be the game-winner on assists from Brianna Ware and Camryn Wong.
  • The Huskies doubled their lead in the early stages of the second as Ware cashed in on a feed from Kathryn Stockdale at 2:51 of the period.
  • BU had the first power-play opportunity of the game at 14:43 of the second but could not take advantage of it.
  • The Terriers held a 20-15 shot advantage through two periods but faced a 2-0 deficit entering the third.
  • Back-to-back BU penalties overlapped for nine seconds in the third to create a brief 5-on-3 advantage for the visitors but the Terriers' penalty kill was able to get back to full strength.
  • Soon after, however, the Huskies put the game out of reach when Jada Habisch scored her team-leading 15th goal of the year off a setup by Brooke Campbell.
  • Just as the Terriers looked to pull goaltender Callie Shanahan in favor of an extra skater, a miscue led to an easy open-net goal as Shanahan was approaching the bench with 2:22 to play.

GAME NOTES
  • UConn held a 30-26 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Shanahan and Chan each made 26 saves in the contest.
  • BU successfully killed off both of UConn's power-play chances and has allowed just one goal in its opponents' past 44 opportunities on the power play.
  • Freshman Alex Law recorded a game-best six shots.
