February 26, 2024 | Men's Lacrosse
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Junior Matthew Fritz and graduate student Patrick Morrison of the Boston University men's lacrosse team earned weekly awards from the Patriot League, as announced on Monday.
Morrison was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week while Fritz was recognized as the Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Week. Both standouts were instrumental in the Terriers' 16-10 win over Brown last Tuesday.
Fritz went 10-of-13 at the X against the Bears, collecting five ground balls in the process. The transfer from Ohio State also scored his first goal as a Terrier as part of a fantastic start to the third quarter. With BU ahead of Brown, 5-3, Fritz won the opening faceoff of the second half by keeping the play alive long enough for graduate student Roy Meyer to win the ground ball and feed classmate Louis Perfetto for a goal. Fritz then cleanly won the next faceoff and took it all the way himself to double the Terriers' lead in a span of 18 seconds. Fritz is second in the Patriot league with a .596 win percentage at the X this season.
Morrison was a monster on the defensive end in the victory, recording a career-high six caused turnovers and adding four ground balls. He was part of a defensive unit that held Brown scoreless for the opening 13:13 of the contest as well as the final 9:12 of the game. Morrison, who leads the NCAA with 14 caused turnovers and 3.50 caused turnovers per game, is now a two-time PL Defensive Player of the Week this season.
BU will its homecoming game on Saturday when the Terriers welcome Navy to Nickerson Field for the Terriers' Patriot League opener. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
