Women’s Basketball Readies For Saturday Road Tilt at Bucknell

BOSTON – Playing its first road contest since Jan. 15, the Boston University women's basketball program heads to Bucknell on Saturday, Jan. 25. Opening tip from Sojka Pavilion is set for 2 p.m.
 
BU (7-11, 1-6 PL) look to boost its road winning percentage in 2024-25 to .500, sporting a 4-5 record entering Saturday's Patriot League contest. The Terriers have won four of their last seven away matchups dating back to Dec. 5.
 
Bucknell (9-9, 4-3 PL) seeks its fifth victory in its last seven appearances. The Bison sport a 6-2 record at home, winning their last two affairs.
 
Saturday's game airs on ESPN+. Bucknell will provide live statistics while the Patriot League supplies an international stream.
 
TERRIER TIDBITS
  • The Terriers sustained a 74-64 loss to Navy on Jan. 22 at Case Gym.
  • BU closed what was once an 11-point deficit to three points with 2:35 left in regulation before the Mids ended the contest on an 11-4 run.
  • Senior Alex Giannaros led the Terriers with 15 points and four assists.
  • Point guards Bella McLaughlin and Aoibhe Gormley combined for 21 points and 11 rebounds, with the latter shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the field.
  • Giannaros needs three more three-pointers to match Kristi Dini '09 for fourth place in program history. She is also 14 minutes away from playing 3,000 total minutes in her collegiate career.
  • As a team, BU averages 55.6 points per game in road contests on just 38.8 percent shooting.
  • Junior Anete Adler leads the Terriers in road games with a .583 field goal percentage.
  • In six double-digit scoring games this year, McLaughlin has taken an average of 9.2 shots per contest. 
SCOUTING BUCKNELL
  • The Bison snapped their two-game losing streak with a 71-67 overtime win over Colgate on Jan. 22.
  • Leading scorer Ashley Sofilkanich tied the single season program record with 44 points, adding 11 rebounds and five assists.
  • Sofilkanich, owner of three Patriot League Player of the Week awards in 2024-25, leads Bucknell and the conference with 20.1 points per game and 44 blocks.
  • The Bison share the top spot in scoring defense across the league against conference foes with 53.7 points allowed per game.
  • Bucknell was projected to finish eighth in the Patriot League preseason poll, with Sofilkanich earning a spot on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team.
  • Last year, the Bison went 13-18 and 9-9 in conference play to earn the No. 8-seed in the Patriot League Tournament and reach the quarterfinal round. 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday marks the 21st all-time meeting between BU and Bucknell in a series that began in BU's first season as a Patriot League member in 2014.
  • The Bison sport a 13-7 edge in the rivalry, though the Terriers have won four of the last six matchups.
  • On the road, BU is just 3-7. However, all three victories have come in the last five tilts at Sojka Pavilion.
  • The Bison were the only team to sweep the Terriers in the regular season last year, winning 61-52 on Jan. 17 and 71-60 on Feb. 10, 2024.
  • Giannaros led BU with 16 points in the last meeting, while sophomore Audrey Ericksen contributed 10 points in the first tilt.

  • The Terriers return to Case Gym to face Holy Cross in a Turnpike Trophy matchup on Monday (Jan. 27).
  • Opening tip is set for 4 p.m. as part of a BU basketball doubleheader that airs on CBS Sports Network.
