LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Anete Adler dropped a career high 15 points to pace three Terriers in double figures, but the Boston University women's basketball team could not overcome Bucknell in a 74-59 loss on Saturday afternoon at Sojka Pavilion.

BU (7-12, 1-7 PL) trailed for over 36 minutes of game time as the Bison (10-9, 5-3 PL) shot over 57 percent from the field and led by as many as 17 points in the contest.

Adler made six of her 10 shots to pace the Terriers. Senior Alex Giannaros supplied 11 points and four assists, while sophomore Aoibhe Gormley collected 10 points, five dishes and a career best five steals.

Ashley Sofilkanich led all scorers with 22 points while adding seven rebounds and six assists. Sophia Sabino tallied 15 points and four helpers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

BU took an early 5-2 lead on a Giannaros corner three and freshman Allison Schwertner's layup through a double team, but the Bison rattled off an 11-0 extended run and finished the quarter with a 17-3 burst and a 19-8 lead.
Elana Weisman's three in front of the BU bench extended the Bucknell edge to 24-10 just 1:15 into the second quarter, but the Terriers ripped off eight straight points thanks to layups from Adler and Schwertner as well as a Bentley runner in the high post.
Reese Zemitis ended the Bison drought with a three-pointer to jumpstart a 9-2 spurt that replenished Bucknell's double-digit lead at 33-20 with 3:50 until halftime.
Sophomore Bella McLaughlin connected on a driving layup through the right lane with 51 seconds on the clock to pull BU within 35-24 at the break.
Two minutes into the third quarter, Schwertner started a 10-3 Terrier run that sophomore Inés Monteagudo Pardo and Giannaros finished with triples to bring BU within 42-36 with 6:01 left in the third.
Bucknell responded with a 9-1 run that featured five Sabino points to give the Bison their largest lead at the time, 51-37.
BU wrapped the third with another McLaughlin layup and Adler's top-of-the-key jumper to cut its deficit to 51-41 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Bison made four of their first five shots in the fourth quarter to expand the gap to 61-45 with 6:45 remaining.
Giannaros found Adler for a layup, then the junior nailed two free throws, but Isabella King knocked down a three and Sofilkanich drained a layup to push Bucknell ahead 66-49 with 4:04 on the clock.
The closest BU got from there was nine, 68-59, with 1:22 to play after Gormley drilled a pair of left wing threes, then Adler hit a left block layup. Zemitis and Sabino ended the game with corner triples, however.

STATS

The Terriers shook off a 21.4 shooting percentage in the first quarter to finish nearly 42 percent from the field for the game.
The Bison's 50 percent shooting from distance (9-for-18) aided its 57.4 clip for the contest.
Bucknell sported a 31-19 advantage in rebounding. Sophomore Sisi Bentley paced the Terriers with six caroms.
BU turned 19 Bison turnovers into 21 points, and won the edge in paint points, 34-26.
The Terriers assisted on 15 of its 23 baskets.

NOTES

Adler surpassed her previous career best of 13 points, which occurred at Northern Colorado on Nov. 26, 2023.
Gormley has recorded at least one steal in eight of BU's nine league games, and four-plus swipes in three contests.
Giannaros now has 13 games this season in double figures.
In Patriot League play, BU's bench is averaging 21.5 points per game.
The Bison extend their series lead over the Terriers to 14-7.
