Sjöberg Qualifies for Mile Final at NCAA Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — In the Boston University women's track & field team's first appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships since 2014, junior Vera Sjöberg qualified for the mile final on day one of the meet at the Virginia Beach Sports Center on Friday.
Sjöberg qualified for the mile final on time, finishing in 4:35.33 in the second heat of the event. Her time was sixth in her heat and seventh overall.
The race took its time to develop, as Sjöberg stood at 2:25.48 after four laps, but she closed the final 800 meters in 2:10.07 to secure a spot in the final.
The Stockholm, Sweden native will look to become a First Team All-American in her final at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 15 – the first indoor All-American Terrier since 2014, when Monica Adler finished eighth in the mile.
The Terriers have not had a national indoor champion on the women's side since 1991, when Jennifer Lanctot won the event in 4:35.65.
Saturday's action will be streamed live on ESPN+ beginning at 3 p.m. with the women's mile final.
