Sjöberg Earns First Team All-America Status at NCAA Indoor Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Junior Vera Sjöberg of the Boston University women's track & field team used a .01-second edge to earn First Team All-America status in the women's mile at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
 
Sjöberg finished the race in 4:35.34 to take eighth place in the mile final, beating out LSU's Lorena Rangel Batres (4:35.35) and Virginia's Margot Appleton (4:36.01) to earn First Team All-America honors.

The Stockholm, Sweden native is the first indoor First Team All-American representing the arch Boston since 2014, when Monica Adler took eighth in the mile. Sjöberg is also the eighth First Team All-American for BU this century.
 
She is just the fourth indoor first teamer in the history of the Patriot League and the second from the league this century.
 
Her time of 4:35.34 is the fastest BU time in a mile final ever, beating out the previous fastest time held by 1991 NCAA indoor champion Jennifer Lanctot, who ran a 4:35.65.
 
Sjöberg qualified for the final on time on day one, crossing the line at 4:35.33 to earn her spot in the final.
 
Next up for the Sweden native, she will head to Nanjing, China, to compete in the 1500m run at the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships beginning March 21.
