Women’s Rowing Begins Spring Slate Against Cornell, George Washington on Saturday

BOSTON – The Boston University women's rowing program's spring season is set to begin on Saturday (March 29) against Cornell and George Washington on Cayuga Lake. The first race is set to begin at 8:10 a.m.
BU, the defending Patriot League champions, will compete in nine total events in the spring of 2025. The Terriers competed in the 59th Head of the Charles this past October to kick off the 2024-25 slate wrapped the fall with the Foot of the Charles. BU had some preseason looks down at Clemson to get ready for the spring schedule to start.

BU VS. CORNELL
- The Terriers most recently competed head-to-head against Cornell in 2024 in their spring opener.
- BU finished first in the Varsity 8+, the Second Varsity 8+ and the Varsity 4+.
- The Terriers had 21-second, 16-second and 11-second cushions, respectively, in each of the wins.
- BU also saw the Big Red in the 2024 Eastern Sprints, with the Third Varsity 8+ finishing ahead of them in the second heat.
BU VS. GEORGE WASHINGTON
- BU saw George Washington at the 2024 Eastern Sprints in the second heat of the Third Varsity 8+. The Terriers finished ahead of GW in that race.
- BU competed against GW at the Princeton Chase in 2015, with the Varsity 8+ crossing the line before GW's boat.
- BU previously raced head-to-head against George Washington in the Playfair Cup in 2008.
- The Terriers finished ahead of GW and Navy to win the cup that year.
THE ROSTER
- BU's roster of 55 athletes boasts 20 returners and 18 newcomers, 16 of which are freshmen.
- Director of women's rowing Malcolm Doldron is in his second season, as are associate head coach Lizzie Mitchell and assistant coach Ciara O'Sullivan.
- The Terriers wrapped the 2024 spring slate with a trip to the NCAA rowing championship, placing 19th in the postseason event.
- BU won the Patriot League Championship in 2024, its first title since 2022 and third overall.
- Overall, BU's roster contains two graduate students, 13 seniors, 10 juniors, 14 sophomores and 16 freshmen.
THE SCHEDULE
- The Terriers with square off with five different colleges in addition to the Lake Wheeler Invite.
- BU will face Cornell, George Washington, Northeastern, Dartmouth and Columbia in head-to-head races.
- Its second tilt with Northeastern will be for the Council Cup on April 12.
- BU will partake in the Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond on May 4.
- The Terriers will look to defend their Patriot League title on May 16 on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J., and once again qualify for the NCAA Championship.
LOOKING AHEAD
- Following this weekend, BU will return to the Charles River to face Northeastern and Dartmouth on Saturday, April 5.
