
Sjöberg Named Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Four Terriers Pick Up Academic All-PL Honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Junior Vera Sjöberg was named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the PL indoor track & field season, the league office announced Wednesday morning.
The Terriers also had four Academic All-Patriot League Team honors in Sjöberg, senior Jamie Chamberlain, senior Asia Hamilton and junior Peace Omonzane.
This is the second straight year Sjöberg has been named the PL Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She is the second Terrier to win back-to-back Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors and the first since 2015-16.
The Stockholm, Sweden native won gold in the mile, 3000m and 5000m at the PL Indoor Championships and had season-best times in the top 50 of NCAA DI in each of those events. Sjöberg is pursuing a B.A. in english and has a 3.97 GPA.
Chamberlain, a senior from Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, took silver in the long jump at the PL Indoor Championships with a mark of 5.97m. It was her best mark of the year and it helped the Terriers take five of the six podium spots in the horizontal jumps. She has a 3.52 GPA and is studying for a B.A. in biology.
Hamilton, a senior from Mississauga, Ontario, finished in the top four in each of her three events at the PL Championships: the triple jump, long jump and high jump, securing 16 points for the Terriers. She is studying for a B.S. in film & television and boasts a 3.85 GPA.
Omonzane, a junior from Brampton, Ontario, won the triple jump and the long jump for the second straight year at the PL Indoor Championships. Omonzane is the first Terrier to double in the horizontal jumps in back-to-back years since Lovie Burleson in 2016 and 2017. She was also named PL Field Athlete of the Meet for the second straight year. Omonzane is studying for a B.A. in psychology and has a 3.87 GPA.
Sjöberg will move on to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia March 14-15, after qualifying for the meet in the mile. The rest of the team will move on to the outdoor season, beginning March 21 at the USF Alumni Invitational.
