Men's Lacrosse Travels to Bucknell on Saturday

The Boston University men's lacrosse team will continue its 12th season on Saturday when the Terriers travel to Bucknell. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ starting at 12 p.m.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • BU suffered its first setback of the season last weekend at Navy, as a furious second-half rally came up short in a 13-9 loss.
  • Senior Will Barnes made a season-high 16 saves for the Terriers to keep them in the contest.
  • Barnes enters the weekend ranked 12th in the NCAA and second in the Patriot League with a .598 save percentage.
  • In addition, Barnes is also 10th in the country and second in the conference with a 7.80 goals-against average.
  • Freshman Madden Murphy was named PL Faceoff Specialist of the Week after winning a career-high 13 of 18 faceoffs and gathering a career-best three ground balls.
  • Murphy went 6-for-8 in the third quarter to help BU begin to mount its comeback attempt and he continued his strong play by going 5-for-7 in the final 15 minutes as the Terriers trimmed a 10-goal deficit to just three.
  • He leads the Patriot League and is 12th in the nation with a .622 faceoff percentage. 
  • Freshman Timothy Shannehan totaled four points (2g, 2a) at Navy and leads BU with 24 points thanks to 13 goals and a team-high 11 assists.
  • BU ranks fourth in the nation and third in the PL in caused turnovers per game (11.40), including 15 caused turnovers against Brown on Feb. 18 and 12 more against Air Force on Feb. 22.
  • The Terriers are also fifth in the nation and third in the Patriot League on the ride, holding opponents to a .744 clearing percentage through five games.

SERIES HISTORY

  • BU is 7-4 all-time against Bucknell and has won six straight games against the Bison in a streak that began with a 12-11 win over then-No. 10 Bucknell in a PL quarterfinal game on April 24, 2018
  • That day, BU scored the final six goals of the game to rally for what was then the program's first win over a top-10 team.
  • The Terriers have won each of the last two meetings in Lewisburg, including a 14-12 triumph on March 11, 2023.
  • BU is unbeaten against Bucknell when scoring 10 or more goals and has averaged 13.0 goals per game over its past three victories over the Bison.

SCOUTING BUCKNELL

  • The Bison opened Patriot League play with an 11-10 double-overtime loss at Holy Cross last weekend.
  • Junior Michael Meyer leads Bucknell in assists (16) and points (28) while senior Connor Davis paces the Bison with 23 goals in addition to being second on the squad with 26 points.
  • Sophomore Ben Concepcion leads Bucknell with a .571 faceoff percentage but did not take a faceoff in each of the last two games.
  • His classmate, Colin McLoy, has gone 16-of-48 (.333) at the X over the last two games and has notched five ground balls in each contest.
  • Junior goalkeeper Luke Renaud started each of the first two games for Bucknell and has also seen time in two other tilts.
  • He owns a 7.75 goals-against average and a .595 save percentage.
  • Junior Jaz Zanelli, has started each of the last three games and owns a .528 save percentage and a 12.87 GAA.

UP NEXT

  • BU will return home to Nickerson Field on Saturday, March 15, to host Loyola Maryland.
  • Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m., with the women's team to host Bucknell afterwards at 4 p.m.
