PHILADELPHIA — Junior Vera Sjöberg of the Boston University women's track & field team added to her distance dominance at Franklin Field on Thursday night, breaking the Terriers' 5000m record in a win at the Penn Relays.

Sjöberg ran a time of 15:40.76 to win the race and break the school record, almost nine seconds faster than any other competitor. The previous record was 15:44.19, set by Katie Matthews in 2013.

The Stockholm, Sweden native's time is the fastest in the Patriot League by over 28 seconds and would rank 10th in the NCAA East Region entering Thursday night. She also has a 1500m time of 4:09.79 that is currently seventh in the NCAA East Region.

Sjöberg now owns BU school records in the outdoor 5000m, outdoor 1500m, indoor mile, indoor 3000m and indoor 1000m. She is the only Terrier to hold five school records, with five other Terriers holding three.

Next up, BU travels to the Ken O'Brien Pre-Conference Meet on Saturday, April 26 before heading to the Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3.
