Terriers Roll Past Colgate in Patriot League Quarterfinals
April 25, 2025 | Women's Tennis
HAMILTON, N.Y. — Without losing a set, the second-seeded Boston University women's tennis team cruised to a 4-0 victory over the No. 7 seed Colgate Raiders in a Patriot League quarterfinal win on Saturday at the J.W. Abrahamson Tennis Courts.
The Terriers (11-8, 6-1 PL) won the first two doubles sets by a combined score of 12-3 and never looked back, with no Terrier dropping more than two games in a set during the singles rounds to the Raiders (12-11, 3-5 PL).
Sophomore Uma Bakaityte and freshman Gabriella Mikaul picked up the first doubles win by a 6-0 score. Then at line two, sophomore Blanka DeMicheli and freshman Madison Liu earned a 6-3 victory over their opponents, earning their 10th doubles win of the season during dual match play.
At third singles, Liu dispatched of her opponent 6-1, 6-1, finishing in just 53 minutes. Then, just over a minute later, Bakaityte's match at first singles wrapped up with the Terriers earning a 6-2, 6-1 win there. Finally, just over a minute after that, junior Rhea Rai picked up the clinching win at sixth singles by a 6-2, 6-0 score.
Mikaul, DeMicheli and junior Emily Zhao all had leads in their matches as well, with Zhao the next closest to finishing at fifth singles with a 6-1, 5-2 advantage.
The Terriers advance to their 11th-straight Patriot League semifinals appearance — they have never missed a PL semifinal while in the league — and will play third-seeded Navy, whom they earned a regular season over by a 4-3 score earlier in April.
That match is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, April 26, in Hamilton, New York.
