Track & Field Heads to Holy Cross for Patriot League Championships

BOSTON – The Boston University men's and women's track & field teams travel to Holy Cross for the Patriot League Championships this weekend. Competition begins on Friday (May 2) at 9 a.m. and Saturday (May 3) at 8:45 a.m.

- Entering the championships, BU owns 14 of the current top two marks in the league across multiple events.
- Four Terriers boast the top marks in the league headed into the championships: Vera Sjöberg (1500m, 5000m), Karsen Vesty (800m, 1500m), Peace Omonzane (long jump, triple jump) and Freddy Collins (5000m).
- Six Terriers have the second-best mark in the league as well: Olivia Hughes (heptathlon), Owen Faulha (javelin), Ellie Roan (hammer), Emma Lawrence (triple jump), Asia Hamilton (long jump), Guy Margalit (triple jump) and Ola Szulska (5000m).
- Sjöberg, who notably broke the school record in the 1500m with her time of 4:09.79, will defend her title in the event. BU has won the last four 1500m titles.
- Omonzane, who won the triple jump in 2024, returns after a stellar indoor championships at which she was named Patriot League Field Athlete of the Meet after sweeping the horizontal jumps.
- BU also returns 2024 Patriot League champion Ellie Roan, who won the hammer throw.
- In 2024, both teams finished third at the championships with the men's squad finishing with 116 points and the women scoring 129.33.
- Junior Vera Sjöberg picked up Patriot League Track Athlete of the Meet honors, marking the third straight year a Terrier has won the honor on the women's side.
- Omonzane, Sjöberg and Roan are the returning First Team All-Patriot League honorees who will compete again in 2025
- Senior Cole Tucker, junior Parker Schneider and senior Asia Hamilton return as Second Team All-Patriot League members.
- Since joining the Patriot League in 2014, the men have finished in third place six times and had their highest points total in 2017 with 147.
- The women won the outdoor title in the 2014 season with 203.5 points and have finished second four times.
- BU has had men's individual champions at least once in the 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m Steeplechase, 5000m, 110m hurdles, 4x100m relay, 400m hurdles, hammer, triple jump, high jump and long jump,
- The Terriers have also claimed at least one individual women's champion in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m, 5000m, 10,000m, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, high jump, long jump, triple jump and hammer throw.
