Terriers Earn 11 Medals on Day One of Patriot League Championships

May 2, 2025

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Boston University track & field team took home five gold medals on day one of the 2025 Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships on the Hart Track on Friday.

BU earned 11 medals in total, broke two meet records, three school records and notched 16 finals qualifiers.

After day one, the BU women are in the lead with 59 points. Army West Point has 49 points and Navy has 41 points. On the men's side, BU is in third with 39 points, trailing Army West Point (68 points) and Navy (56 points).

Top Dogs
  • Junior Ellie Roan won the first gold medal of the day for BU, launching her final throw 59.72m in the hammer throw to take gold in the event in back-to-back years at the Championships. As the first Terrier to win the event at the PL Championships, she is also the first to ever go back-to-back in the event.
  • In the men's javelin, junior Owen Faulha picked up a gold medal with a 64.00m throw - the Terriers' first-ever gold medal in the event and Faulha's first career gold.
  • In the long jump, junior Peace Omonzane had a monster day, reaching 6.44m in the event. That mark broke a school record from 2009 and set a new meet record by .36 meters. Omonzane has now won three of the four horizontal jumps during the indoor and outdoor championship meets this year after sweeping the long and triple jumps at the indoor championships.
  • The Terriers swept the 4x800m relays, beginning with the men's squad of Thomas Cowan, Karsen Vesty, Shamiso Sikaneta and Parker Schneider taking gold with a 7:29.61 time.
  • On the women's side, it was Lily Borin, Olivia Dodds, Maura Woodland-Medenilla and Vera Sjöberg who took home the crown, running a school record and meet record time of 8:39.22 to win. Sjöberg's final 800m of 2:05.77 was enough to outkick Army West Point and best the 27-year-old school record.
Podium Appearances
  • In the men's long jump, seniors Samuel Roszak and Ryan Rosenberger won silver and bronze, respectively. Roszak reached 7.53m on his final jump to earn silver and Rosenberger also used his final jump, reaching the sand at 7.51m, to take bronze.
  • The women's long jump saw a podium sweep for the second straight year by the Terriers, as following Omonzane were seniors Asia Hamilton (6.10m) and Emma Lawrence (6.07m), who took silver and bronze, respectively.
  • Merem Gabriel-Rodriguez earned bronze in the women's 10000m, crossing the line in 37:12.55.
  • Graduate student Alli Lofquist found herself on the podium with a bronze medal after eclipsing a 3.97m bar in the pole vault, breaking her own school record.
