Terriers Shut Out Merrimack, 3-0

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Boston University women's ice hockey team (7-15-3, 5-9-2 HE) posted a 3-0 shutout at Merrimack (5-18-3, 2-13-1 HE) on Friday afternoon at Lawler Rink.
The Terriers got to work early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first frame. BU held that lead until late in the third, when it scored an empty net goal to complete the 3-0 shutout.
Sophomore Lola Reid and junior Greta Henderson scored BU's goals in the first while senior Clara Yuhn scored the third and final goal. Freshmen Lucy Thiessen and Anežka Čabelová assisted on Reid's lamplighter and freshman Avery Supryka earned an assist on Yuhn's goal. Graduate student Michelle Pasiechnyk made 23 stops between the posts for her 22nd career shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU opened the scoring at the 11:02 mark when passes from Čabelová and Theissen made their way to Reid, whose initial shot was blocked.
- She then spun around in the slot and fired off a shot that passed multiple Merrimack defenders and slipped into the net, giving BU a 1-0 lead.
- The Terriers were assessed a major penalty for cross checking with 6:30 to go in the first frame.
- During the Merrimack power play, Henderson intercepted a pass at the blue line and scored from the near circle, unassisted, to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead.
- With 1:07 to go on the Merrimack power play, the Warriors sent a skater to the box for tripping.
- BU successfully killed off the penalty and had 53 seconds of a power play opportunity but did not score through the advantage.
- In the middle stanza, shots were nearly even with BU taking six and Merrimack taking seven and there was no change in score.
- With 1:33 to play in the third frame, Merrimack pulled its netminder from the posts.
- BU capitalized on the empty net when Supryka passed to Yuhn, whose diving shot at the BU blue line sent the puck into the empty net to help the Terriers secure the 3-0 shutout win.
GAME NOTES
- BU outshot Merrimack, 29 to 23.
- Both teams were 0-for-1 on the power play with BU scoring a shorthanded goal.
- The Terriers won 30 faceoffs compared to Merrimack's 26.
- BU blocked nine shots, led by seniors Maeve Carey and Sydney Healey who each blocked two.
- S. Healey, Supryka and senior Maeve Kelly were all +2 on the day.
- BU hosts Merrimack on Saturday for the second game in the home-and-home series.
- Puck drop is set for 4 p.m.
