Terriers Skate Past Merrimack, 3-1

BOSTON – The Boston University women's ice hockey team (9-15-3, 7-9-2 HE) defeated Merrimack (5-20-3, 2-14-1 HE) in a 3-1 decision on Saturday evening at Walter Brown Arena.
The first period saw BU light the lamp and Merrimack respond before BU took a 2-1 lead early in the second. The Terriers tacked on a power-play goal midway through the third to extend its lead and Merrimack was never able to respond. The Warriors pulled their netminder with 2:56 to play, but the Terriers held on to complete the weekend sweep with the 3-1 victory.
Senior Sydney Healey led BU in points with two, both of which coming as goals. Freshman Lexie Bertelsen also scored for the Terriers while sophomore Kaileigh Quigg, junior Greta Henderson and seniors Maeve Carey and Clara Yuhn each recorded an assist.
Junior Mari Pietersen made 27 stops to help the Terriers to an unbeaten weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- At the 4:59 mark, S. Healey collected a rebound off her initial shot and wrapped around the net to slide the puck in, giving BU a 1-0 lead. She was assisted by Yuhn and Quigg, whose diving pass set S. Healey up for the initial shot.
- Merrimack tied things up at 11:09 in the first.
- BU went to the box for boarding with 7:23 on the clock and 20 seconds into the penalty kill, Merrimack went to the box for holding without a change in score.
- Both penalties cleared with no change in score.
- Just 3:45 into the second stanza, passes from Kelly and Henderson set Bertelsen up for a breakaway as she scored on a shot from the top of the crease to give BU a 2-1 lead.
- BU was called for boarding at 15:50 and successfully killed the penalty.
- The Warriors were served a boarding penalty with 10:01 to go in the third.
- Thirty seconds into the power play, passes from K. Healey and Carey found S. Healey, whose shot from the far circle flew into the net to expand the Terriers' lead to 3-1.
- BU went to the box for hooking at the 12:29 mark and were once again successful on the penalty kill.
- Merrimack pulled its netminder with 2:56 to play in the third.
- The Terriers went to the box for boarding with 37.2 seconds remaining in the third.
- Merrimack challenged for a major penalty but was unsuccessful.
- BU held on through the 6-on-4 disadvantage to defeat Merrimack, 3-1, completing the weekend sweep.
