Terriers Conclude Season With 2-1 Double Overtime Loss to No. 5 Northeastern

BOSTON – The Boston University women's ice hockey team (11-21-3, 8-14-2 HE) fell to top-seeded No. 5 Northeastern (27-7-1, 21-2-1 HE) in double overtime, 2-1, in the Hockey East quarterfinals on Saturday evening. The loss marks the end of BU's season.
The Huskies got on the board early in the first period, holding a 1-0 lead into the second. BU then evened the score with a shorthanded goal midway through the middle frame which lasted through the entire third and first overtime periods. The Huskies then found the back of the net just over a minute into the second overtime to defeat the Terriers, 2-1.
Senior Sydney Healey scored BU's lone goal on a shorthanded, unassisted opportunity. Junior Mari Pietersen made 34 saves in the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME NOTES
The Huskies got on the board early in the first period, holding a 1-0 lead into the second. HOW IT HAPPENED
- At 4:32 in the opening frame, Northeastern took a 1-0 lead.
- BU went to the box for hitting from behind at the 7:06 mark.
- S. Healey broke away on the penalty kill to score at 8:34, tying the game 1-1 with the shorthanded goal.
- The Terriers successfully killed the remainder of the penalty.
- BU earned a power-play opportunity at the 18:32 mark when the Huskies went to the box for roughing.
- With 51 seconds to play in the frame, BU went to the box for tripping and play resumed as 4-on-4 through the end of the second.
- After the Huskies' penalty expired, BU then successfully killed off the Northeastern power play.
- Northeastern was called for body checking with 7:51 to go in the third and successfully fended off the Terrier power play.
- The score remained tied through the rest of the third and the entirety of the first overtime period.
- Just 1:14 into the second overtime, Northeastern scored to win, 2-1, and eliminate the Terriers from the Hockey East tournament.

- Both teams were 0-for-2 on the power play.
- Northeastern blocked 27 shots while BU blocked 24.
