Terriers Defeat Providence, 3-1

BOSTON – The Boston University women's ice hockey team (10-19-3, 8-13-2 HE) came back from a 1-0 deficit to take down Providence (11-20-2, 8-13-2 HE) in a 3-1 decision on Friday night at Walter Brown Arena.
Providence took a 1-0 lead in the first before the Terriers tied things up late in the second. BU carried its momentum into the third, scoring a power-play goal and an empty-netter to secure the 3-1 win over the Friars.
Seniors Maeve Kelly and Luisa Welcke each earned two points. Kelly scored the game-winner and assisted on Lu. Welcke's empty net goal, while Lu. Welcke picked up an assist on the lamplighter. Freshman Lexie Bertelsen scored BU's first goal.
Senior Lilli Welcke also assisted on Bertelsen's goal while freshman Anežka Čabelová and senior Sydney Healey assisted on Kelly's. Junior Greta Henderson registered an assist on the empty net goal as well. Graduate student Michelle Pasiechnyk made 41 saves in between the posts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Providence went to the box for hooking at 3:38, but BU did not convert on the power play.
- The Friars took a 1-0 lead at the 12:58 mark in the first.
- With 10:58 to go in the second, Providence went to the box for hooking and was successful on the penalty kill.
- BU then went to the box for interference with 8:50 to play in the frame and killed off the penalty.
- The Friars went back to the box, this time for holding, at the 14:28 mark and BU did not score through the advantage.
- At 17:22, Lu. Welcke passed to Li. Welcke, who sent the puck across the slot to Bertelsen. Bertelsen then fired off a shot from the near circle to tie the game, 1-1.
- Providence was called for holding at the 11:53 mark in the third.
- S. Healey won the faceoff in Čabelová's direction, who then sent the puck across the ice to Kelly.
- Kelly's laser from the far circle lifted BU to a 2-1 lead with 7:59 to go in the third.
- Providence pulled its netminder with just over three minutes to play in the third.
- The Terriers tacked on an empty-net goal from Lu. Welcke with 40 seconds to play to complete the 3-1 comeback win.
GAME NOTES
- Providence outshot BU, 42 to 31.
- Both teams blocked 10 shots.
- BU was 1-for-4 on the power play while Providence was 0-for-1.
- The Terriers won 33 faceoffs compared to BU's 19.
- With the win, BU can finish no lower than eighth in the Hockey East standings.
