Men's Ice Hockey Defeats No. 18 Maine in Overtime, 3-2

BOSTON - Freshman Ryder Ritchie scored just 1:42 into overtime to lift the Boston University men's ice hockey team to a 3-2 victory over No. 18 Maine on Friday night at Agganis Arena.
BU (13-13-2, 9-10-4 HE) twice evened the score before Ritchie's heroics secured two crucial points in the Hockey East standings. Freshman Jack Murtagh's second-period strike tied the game at 1-1 and sophomore Cole Eiserman scored his 11th goal of the season at 4:27 of the third to help force overtime. Sophomore Cole Hutson and junior captain Gavin McCarthy assisted on Murtagh's marker while junior Jack Harvey and freshman Ben Merrill set up Eiserman's power-play goal. Harvey and sophomore Sascha Boumedienne provided the helpers on Ritchie's winner.
Sophomore goaltender Mikhail Yegorov was sharp all night and finished the game with 28 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team broke through in the first period, but Frank Djurasevic gave Maine (14-11-2, 8-9-0 HE) a 1-0 lead just 1:22 into the second stanza.
- Murtagh equalized less than two minutes later with a one-timer from the right circle off a feed from Hutson.
- Max Scott scored at 11:33 of the second to give Maine a 2-1 lead entering the third.
- Eiserman leveled the score again with a shot from the slot off pass from Harvey.
- Both goalies stood tall in the remaining minutes of the third period, with the teams combining for 29 shots on goal over the final 20 minutes.
- Ritchie ended things early in overtime. The Terriers regrouped in the neutral zone, with Boumedienne carrying the puck in and finding Ritchie in the slot for the winner.
- This was the second overtime game between BU and Maine this season; the Black Bears earned a 5-4 overtime victory on Oct. 31 in Orono.
- Harvey has totaled three points (1g, 2a) across the last Terriers' last two home games.
- This was the second straight game that BU erased a 1-0 and a 2-1 lead to force overtime; the Terriers won a shootout against Northeastern on Monday night following a 2-2 tie.
- BU went 3-for-3 on the penalty kill and converted its lone power-play chance of the evening.
- BU will face No. 11/13 Boston College in the championship game of the 73rd Dunkin' Men's Beanpot on Monday night at TD Garden.
- Puck drop on NESN, ESPN+ and NHL Network is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
