Lightweight Rowing Caps Races at Stanford, Worcester

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. and WORCESTER, Mass. – The Boston University lightweight rowing program completed its day on Saturday (April 25) as crews competed both in a dual race vs. Stanford at Redwood Shores and joined the Terrier openweight program against Rhode Island, Delaware and Holy Cross on Lake Quinsigamond.
Against the Cardinal, the Lightweight Double and Lightweight 4 were both victorious, combining for margins of 47 seconds.
Back in the Bay State, the Terriers' top Second Varsity 4 was the runner-up only to the BU openweight crew to lead three boats in the 2V4 and 2V8 races.
In Redwood City, Calif., BU's Lightweight 8, coxed by Mira Saldanha and stroked by Hannah Clark, was the runner-up to Stanford with a time of 7:09.7.
BU rebounded in the Lightweight 4, coxed by Lylah Nah and stroked by Cece Mason, with a commanding win in 8:07.4. The Cardinal crossed the line 16.5 seconds later at 8:23.9.
Emilia Vukasinovic in the bow seat and Catherine Clark in the stroke seat recorded a larger advantage in the Lightweight Double, winning with a time of 8:16.9 that was 30.5 seconds ahead of the Cardinal.
Over in Worcester, Mass., the Terrier Second Varsity 8, coxed by Amna Rezvi and stroked by Nora Hemsley, competed against BU's openweight 2V8 and openweight crews from Rhode Island, Delaware and Holy Cross. The Terrier lights finished fifth among the field in 7:18.11, under five seconds from fourth place.
As BU's openweight Second Varsity 4 triumphed in the event, the lightweight's top 2V4, coxed by Rezvi and stroked by Hemsley, was 6.2 seconds behind at 7:53.6 to place second. The "B" crew, coxed by Maria Cummins-Astor and stroked by Zoe Meurer, was fifth in a time of 8:08.7.
BU regroups next Sunday (May 3) to participate in the Eastern Sprints at Lake Quinsigamond.
