The offensive heroics of Lisa Barone enabled the 1991 Boston
University field hockey team to overcome a slow start, and
advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Following consecutive losses to national powers North Carolina,
Syracuse, Iowa, and Old Dominion, the Terriers rallied to
post an 11-2-1 mark over their final 14 regular-season games.
Barone, who tallied at least one point in nine of those contests,
paced the offense with a team-leading 16 points during this
stretch.
The Terriers proceeded to knock off Vermont and Northeastern
to capture their first America East Tournament title in program
history. Advancing to the NCAA Tournament, the club downed
cross-town rival Harvard to extend its unbeaten streak to
11 games.
Despite being eliminated at Penn State in the second round
of the NCAA Tournament, the Terriers concluded the year ranked
eighth nationally with an overall record of 14-7-1.
Barone, who led the team with eight goals and 23 points,
received Second Team All-America and First Team All-Region
honors. In addition, she received First Team All-Conference,
All-Conference Tournament Team, and All-Conference Academic
recognition.
Her stellar senior year was indicative of her entire career,
in which she helped the club register a four-year mark of
48-25-5 (.647). As a sophomore, she was the third-leading
scorer on a team that posted a 13-4-2 mark, advanced to the
NCAA Tournament and was ranked ninth nationally. As a junior,
she earned Second Team All-Region honors after finishing second
on the team with 27 points.
Barone finished her career with totals of 27 goals scored
and 68 points.
