The only swimmer in school history to win an individual title
at the competitive ECAC Men's Swimming Championships, Scott
Riewald won two titles, and, in the process, established an
meet record in each event.
His triumphs occurred at the 1992 ECAC Championship, and highlighted
one of the all-time great individual performances in meet
history. Competing in the three individual and four relay
events, Riewald collected 56 points and helped the Terriers
finish fifth overall. He was named the Outstanding Swimmer
of the Meet, for the third time in his career.
Although the meet marked his final competitive appearance,
it also exemplified his entire career. A four-time Team MVP,
Riewald set school records in three individual events, and
swam a leg on four record-setting relay teams.
At the America East Championships, Riewald captured three
individual titles and a pair of relay triumphs as a junior.
The following year, he added another trio of titles and established
meet records in each event. His effort helped the Terriers
capture the overall team title at the first two League Championships,
and Riewald was named the Outstanding Swimmer of each meet.
However, his athletic success tells only half the story.
In the classroom, Riewald compiled a four-year GPA of 3.86,
while majoring in biomedical engineering. As a senior, he
received the E. Ray Speare Award as the University's Outstanding
Senior Male Student-Athlete, the America East Scholar-Athlete
Award, and earned First team GTE Academic All-America honors
as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of
America. In 1991, Riewald became the first swimmer to receive
the Boston University Hall of Fame Scholarship Award.
