BOSTON, Mass -- The Terrier women's soccer team was unable to put an end to the University of Hartford's 23-game America East winning streak as they lost to the Lady Hawks, 1-0, at Nickerson Field. With the loss, the Terriers fall to 7-6-0 (3-1-0 in America East), while Hartford improves to 8-3-2 (5-0-0).
After a scoreless first half, a shot from 20 yards out by Terrier forward Mary-Beth Magner (Plymouth, MA) went just wide left of the Hartford goal at 48:40. Just under 11 minutes later at 59:20 , Terrier goalie Meghan Lynch (Andover, MA) stopped a Lady Hawks scoring opportunity on a shot to the left side of the Terrier goal by Hartford midfielder Tini Lyng.
Hartford scored the only goal of the game at 60:02 off a corner kick from Signe Andersen that was deflected into the Terrier goal on a header from the near side by Lady Hawk midfielder Camille Sparkes.
The Terriers rallied late in the second half, but Hartford goalie Ingrid Sternhoff saved a direct kick by Terrier midfielder Suzanne Finn (Dedham, MA) with only 15 minutes left to play in regulation.
The Terriers will play next on Sunday afternoon (October 17) when they host the University of Vermont in America East action. The game will be played at Nickerson Field at 12 p.m.
