WASHINGTON (AP) -- Tournament most valuable player Chris Monroe scored 19 of his game-high 26 points in the first half as hot-shooting George Washington beat Boston University 92-76 Saturday to win its own Red Auerbach Colonial Classic.
George Washington (4-0), which had just two turnovers in the first half, is off to its best start in eight years. GW began the 1992-93 season with a mark of 7-0 before losing to Pepperdine.
BU (3-1) received 19 points from Ryan Butt and 17 each from Paul Seymour and reserve Matt Turner. The Colonials are now 14-0 lifetime in the Auerbach Classic, which began in 1992 but was not held the past two seasons. GW set a Smith Center record with 14 3-pointers (in 26 tries) on Saturday.
SirValiant Brown had 22 points for GW, and Bernard Barrow added 12 in the win. The Terriers left Monroe uncontested on the outside in the first half and he burned BU by hitting five of his first six shots from the 3-point range.
Barrow had four 3-pointers in the win, as the Colonials made 54 percent of their shots from the field. Monroe's 3-pointer with 11:32 left in the game gave GW a 72-50 lead, and BU never threatened down the stretch.
