July 13, 2026 | General, Men's Basketball
Returning for an 18th year, the Terrier Twelve recognizes the top achievements of Boston University teams and student-athletes from the previous year. Check back each Monday and Thursday this summer as we unveil this year's Terrier Twelve on GoTerriers.com.
Coming in at No. 8 in this year's Terrier Twelve is the men's basketball team after a record-breaking season in which it advanced to its first Patriot League title game since 2020.
Entering February with a 3-7 Patriot League record and season-ending injuries to seven players, the team rattled off nine wins in 10 games to reach the Patriot League Championship game as the fourth seed.
In his 15th season at the helm, head coach Joe Jones reached 251 wins on Comm Ave., becoming the winningest coach in program history. The Terriers also set a program record with 301 made three-pointers during the season.
Junior Michael McNair led the Terriers in scoring with 16.9 points per game on 47.9 percent shooting and 44.4 percent three-point shooting. He garnered First Team All-Patriot League and Academic All-PL honors and his 44.4 percent clip from long range ranked fifth nationally. He drained 110 triples, good for a new single-season program record.
Sophomore Ben Defty broke out in his second season, scoring 15.1 points a game and grabbing 6.8 rebounds per game. He was named to the Second Team All-Patriot League and earned Patriot League All-Tournament honors. The Berlin, Germany, native, finished second nationally shooting a program-record 69.4 percent from the field and finished with 57 blocks, sixth most ever at BU.
Freshman Chance Gladden became the first Terrier since 2013 to earn both All-Conference (third team) and All-Rookie Team honors. He averaged 14.4 points per game and notched 4.5 assists per game in addition to scoring the game-winning, buzzer-beating halfcourt shot that sent the Terriers to the Patriot League title game.
The Terriers finished the year shooting a program-best 49.5 percent from the field, a mark that ranked 17th in the nation. The Terriers also shot 39.3 percent from three-point range, ranking fourth in the nation, and had a 58.1 effective field goal percentage, which ranked 10th nationally.
Senior Otto Landrum was named a recipient of the John B. Simpson Award, given for enthusiastic senior leadership, becoming the first men's basketball player to earn the honor since 2012.
