
Alexander Excels for Barbados at FIBA AmeriCup 2029 Caribbean Pre-Qualifiers

BOSTON – Rising senior Kyrone Alexander of the Boston University men's basketball team rattled off four impressive performances for the Barbados men's basketball team at the FIBA AmeriCup 2029 Caribbean Pre-Qualifiers in Georgetown, Guyana over the weekend.
The 6-foot-5 guard from Bridgetown, Barbados showed his scoring prowess, leading the tournament in points per game (28.8) and shooting 51.6 percent from three-point range to lead Barbados to a perfect 4-0 record. Barbados topped its group with that mark and qualified for the FIBA AmeriCup 2029 Pre-Qualifiers Second Round. On top of leading the tournament in scoring, Alexander accumulated 12 steals, tied for the tournament lead.
In game one of the Pre-Qualifiers on Wednesday (July 8), Barbados pulled away from the Cayman Islands early and never looked back in a wire-to-wire win. Alexander scored 15 points to lead the team on 5-of-9 (55.5%) shooting and notched two steals. He contributed to an important 12-0 run in the second quarter with five points and a rebound, stretching the lead to 43-17 over the Cayman Islands.
Alexander made his impact felt in game two on Thursday (July 9), as Barbados dropped 91 points on Haiti in a 91-68 win. He scored 36 points on 11-of-22 (50.0%) shooting, including four triples. After Haiti ended the first quarter with a 29-21 lead, Barbados outscored it 26-16 in the second quarter to take a two-point lead into the half. Alexander recorded 22 of Barbados' 44 second-half points to help it pull away from the Haitians and move to 2-0.
After a day's break on Friday (July 10), Alexander and Barbados dispatched Grenada on Saturday (July 11), 99-77. Alexander once again led Barbados in scoring, this time dropping 32 points on 12-of-19 (63.2%) shooting. He had was a defensive force as well, posting seven steals as Barbados came back from an early deficit, outscoring Grenada 65-32 over the second and third quarters to command the game and earn its third win.
The finale on Sunday (July 12) was a complete game for Alexander, as he secured a 34-point, 11-rebound double-double and led Barbados to a 96-84 victory over St. Vincent and the Grenadines. After a tight first half, Alexander sparked a Barbados run as he scored 12 points in 2:41 of action late in the third quarter, helping it pull away for its fourth win of the weekend.
