Dalen Wins All-American Honor
August 15, 1999 | Men's Soccer
Terrier senior midfielder Sigurd Dalen, a Second Team All-America last year, has been named a pre-season All-America by Soccer America, as he was the only New England player named to the First Team.
A native of Oslo, Norway and co-captain of this year's B.U. men's soccer team, Dalen enters his final collegiate season tied with Kyle Fresh for fifth on the University's all-time list in goals with 31, while he is sixth in points with 84. Just ahead of him on the goal-scoring list is Okereke Emesih with 32, while George Karalexis leads him in total points by just two.
A year ago, in helping the Terriers post an 11-4-3 record overall and a 6-1-2 mark in America East, Dalen had 10 goals and 5 assists for 25 points. He led the team in goals and points, while he was second in America East in goals and points per game (1.47).
In each of his first three years, Dalen has scored 10 goals or more.
As a freshman, during the 1996 season, he scored 10 goals and added 7 assists for 27 points in 20 games. The following year, he came back with 11 goals along with 10 assists for his personal single-season best of 32 points in 20 games. Then, last year, he had 10-5-25 in 18 games.
Among Dalen's honors are America East Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-Conference as a freshman; First Team All-New England and First Team All-Conference as a sophomore; and Second Team All-America, First Team All-Region, and First Team All-Conference as a junior.
"This is a tremendous honor for Siggy and a tribute for what he has accomplished over the past three years," Terrier head coach Neil Roberts said of Dalen's selection to the pre-season All-America team.
"I think it also serves as recognition of our program and the quality of players we have on our team," concluded the coach.
The Terriers are currently in the midst of pre-season camp.
The team, which is at Northfield-Mt. Hermon School in Northfield, MA, will break camp on Wednesday (August 25th) and return to campus. They are scheduled to scrimmage Holy Cross the following day.
The regular-season will get underway on September 3rd when the Terriers play in the Florida International Tournament with a 7:00 p.m. match against the host school.
The Terriers, who play their first four games on the road, open the home portion of their schedule on Sunday, September 19th at 2:30 p.m.
