Women's Swim Team Drops Tough Decision To Maine
November 18, 2000 | Women's Swimming & Diving
The Terrier women's swimming and diving team suffered a heartbreaking 156-144 loss at the University of Maine on Saturday, Nov. 18, when it dropped the final event of the day by less than two-tenths of a point.
By losing the final relay, it cost the Terriers the opportunity to come away with the win.
Despite the defeated, the Terriers competed very strongly.
Terrier divers freshman Stacey Gallacher (Horsehenos, NY) remained undefeated in both the one- and three-meter dives this season when she won both events with scores of 275.55 and 311.55, respectively. She also led a 1-2-3 B.U. sweep in the two events. Sophomore Farah Zeisses (Huntington Valley, PA) was second with 207.38 and 213.98, while sophomore Heather Foley (Coon Rapids, MN) was third with 198.45 and 200.85.
Both sophomores Laurie Green (St. John's, NF, Canada) and Karrisa Lopez (Santa Fe, NM) had double wins for BU. Green took the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke with times of 1:09.34 and 2:29.34, while Lopez captured the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard IM with times of 2:09.26 and 213.70. Lopez also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly to teammate senior Amelia Finnerty (New Fairfield, CT), who had a time of 59.33.
Other top finishers for the Terriers included senior Corey Cooper (Springfield, VA), who won the 200-yard freestyle with 1:59.83 and freshman Kelli Sweeting (Sarasota, FL), who won the 2000-yard backstroke and placed second in the 200-yard IM to Lopez.
The Terriers now have a three-week break before they travel to Central Connecticut on December 9th for their next meet.
