Terriers Sweep PL Women's Coaching Awards; Kennedy Named Diver of the Meet
February 23, 2026 | Women's Swimming & Diving
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After a 187-point increase from last year's Patriot League Championships and two golds from freshman diver Alayna Kennedy, the Boston University swimming & diving staff swept the PL coaching awards and Kennedy was named the Diver of the Meet, as announced by the league office on Monday following a vote of the head coaches.
Head coach James Sica and his assistants were voted as the PL Women's Swim Coaching Staff of the Year, marking the first such honor since 2008 in the America East. Led by Brad Snodgrass, BU earned the PL Women's Diving Coaching Staff of the Year award for the third time in four seasons.
Kennedy had a perfect debut at the PL Championships, winning the 1-meter competition on Thursday before completing the sweep on Saturday in thrilling fashion. She posted season highs in both events, scoring a 300.5 on the 1-meter before winning by just 1.25 points on the 3-meter with 127.4 of her 321.3 points coming on her fourth and fifth dives.
Kennedy is the first BU freshman to sweep the diving events at a conference meet since Melinda Matyas in 2010 at the America East Championships.
BU had the biggest improvement on both sides with the men securing the biggest point jump of any team at the meet, as their total of 936 was 309.5 higher than 2025. The women went from 727 points last year to 914, moving up one spot to fourth in the process just as the men did.
All six women's divers earned points at the meet with three freshmen - Kennedy, Emily Moh, Kaelyn Katchuk - reaching A finals. It was the third time in four years that BU swept the events as Sumi Cameron '24 (1-meter) and Sophia Souza '25 (3-meter) went back-to-back in 2023 and 2024.
