Terriers Drop Decision In Semester Finale
December 15, 2000 | Women's Swimming & Diving
BOSTON -- Freshman Stacey Gallacher (Horsehenhos, NY) continued her unbeaten streak in the one- and three-meter dives, but the Terrier women's swimming and diving team closed out its first semester on a down note by losing to host Central Connecticut, 129-113, on Saturday (December 9th).
Gallacher is undefeated in both her specialties in all five meets for the Terriers this season.
In the one-meter event, she established a pool record at Central Connecticut with a point total of 274.50. Then, she added the three-meter dive victory with 245.85 points.
The meet opened on an up note for B.U. as it won the 400 medley relay in a respectable time of 4:03.69. Members of the relay included freshman Kelli Sweeting (Sarasota, FL), sophomore Laurie Green (St. John's, Newfoundland), senior Amelia Finnerty (New Fairfield, CT), and senior Kerry Kusz (Iron Mountain, MI).
Aside from Gallacher's two first's, only two other Terriers came away with individual wins. They were Sweeting in the 200 backstroke in 2:11.38 and sophomore Karissa Lopez (Santa Fe, NM) in the 200 individual medley in 2:11.97.
Lopez also finished second in the 200 fly in 2:07.91.
"Karissa has done a tremendous job for us this year," said Terrier head coach Reagh Wetmore. "She is an excellent all-around swimmer who has competed in the backstroke, breaststroke, IM, and fly. She has also swum on the freestyle and medley relay teams for us."
Senior Corey Cooper (Springfield, VA) captured a pair of second-place finishes for the Terriers against Central. They came in the 200 and 500 free with times of 2:00.34 and 5:25.71, respectively.
Junior Christina Chen (Tacoma, WA) was the only other Terrier to finish second, as she was runnerup in the 50 free in :25.43.
The Terriers enter the semester break looking for their first win of the season in five decisions.
"Injuries and illness have really cost us this year," said Wetmore. "Hopefully, we will be able to turn things around in the second semester."
