PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Forward Maris Laksa scored a career-high 24 points to lead Providence College to a 73-48 win over the Boston Terriers before 6,881 at the Providence Civic Center on Thursday night (Dec. 28). Sophomore forward Paul Seymour (Liverpool, NY) was the sole Terrier in double figures with 11 points. B.U. is now 6-4 on the season while Providence improves to 8-3.
The Terriers held a 9-7 lead on an inside layup by junior forward Jerome Graham (North Minneapolis, MN), who had six points, before the Friars erupted for a 25-9 run to close out the half. Providence led, 34-18, at the break.
B.U. shot only 23 percent in the opening half, on 7-for-31 shooting.
Providence opened the second half on a 22-0 run to seal the Terriers' fate.
The Terriers shot only 27 percent for the game, hitting 17-of-63 shots. Providence shot 43 percent on 23-for-53 shooting. The Terriers did outrebound the bigger Friars, pulling down 43 boards, 18 offensive. Providence had 39 rebounds in the game.
Sophomore co-captain Billy Collins (Concord, NH) added nine points and seven rebounds for B.U., which had its lowest scoring output since a 74-46 setback to Hofstra on January 2, 2000.
Dennis Wolff, who is still at 99 career wins at Boston University, is now 0-5 against the Big East.
The Terriers, 2-0 in the America East, will next travel to New Hampshire to take on the Wildcats on January 2 at 7 p.m.
