BOSTON (AP) - Troy Bell scored seven of his 29 points in a 22-4 run to start the second half as Boston College pulled away Saturday for a 97-74 win over Vanderbilt.
Uka Agbai had 16 points and Xavier Singletary added 12 for the Eagles (9-0), off to their best start since opening 10-0 in 1984-85. That season, the Eagles advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament.
Scott Hundley led the Commodores (10-2) with 20 points.
The win was satisfying for Boston College, which lost 76-58 to Vanderbilt last season. The Eagles were upset when Vanderbilt officials refused to reschedule the game, which took place the night after Boston College played a Big East contest in New York against St. John's.
Eagles coach Al Skinner was so upset at the time he vowed to never play Vanderbilt again.
The Eagles, who led 44-33 at the half, broke the game open in the first 4:30 of the second half. Kenny Harley had nine points in the run, including consecutive 3-pointers.
Boston College also had a 9-0 run in the second half, pushing its advantage to 80-42 with just over nine minutes left.
The Eagles used an 18-6 run over a 5:09 stretch of the first half to open up the halftime lead.
An announced crowd of 4,529 showed up despite a winter storm that hit the area about an hour before tipoff.
