Boston University senior swimmer Abigail Clark (Baltimore, MD) had an outstanding meet at the ECAC Championships this past weekend (February 24-25), placing first in the 100-yard breastroke in a school-record time of 1:03.79, qualifying her for both the Olympic trials and the 'B' Standards of the NCAA Nationals. It was the second straight year she has qualified for the NCAA 'B' Standards in that event. It was also the fourth time in her career she has broken the Terrier record in the 100-yard breastroke.
In addition, Clark placed third in the 50-freestyle (24.23) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (52.66), as she helped the Terrier women's team to a third-place finish overall out of 29 teams.
Clark was also part of a number of successful relay teams at the championships. She was part of the winning 200 medley relay team (1:48.86), the second-place 200-freestyle relay team (1:38.62), the second-place 400 medley relay team (3:57.30) and the third-place 400-freestyle relay team (3:34.50).
It was a culmination of a successful season and Boston University career for Clark. At the America East Championships on February 18-20, the senior placed first in the 100-yard breastroke, second in the 50-yard freestyle, and fourth in the 100 freestyle. In addition, she took part in four relays, two of which placed first and two that placed second.
This season in dual meets, she has finished first 10 times and been on 10 winning relay teams. For her career, she has finished first 40 times and been on 42 winning relay teams. She has been named team MVP all four years at B.U.
"She is a great competitor," said head swimming coach Dr. Reagh Wetmore. "She has steadily improved each year and dropped her time in all her events each year which is quite a remarkable accomplishment. She brings a tremendous amount of dedication to the pool each day."
The Olympic trials take place on August 9-16 in Indianapolis, IN. The NCAA nationals take place on March 17-19 in Minneapolis, MN.
