Paul Seymour Named America East Rookie of the Year

The 6-5 shooting guard, who was the Conference's Rookie of the Week three times this season, was also named to the All-Rookie Team.
Seymour is the fourth Terrier to earn the Rookie of the Year honor. Past B.U. players who have been named America East Rookie of the Year were Raja Bell in 1994-95, Tunji Awojobi in 1993-94, and Mike Alexander in 1982-83.
Seymour also becomes the 13th Terrier to be named to the America East All-Rookie Team. Sophomore Dereck Franklin was the last Terrier to be named to the All-Rookie Team.
Last week (February 28th) Seymour earned his second straight rookie honor and third of the season, after averaging 21.5 ppg, 4 rpg, and 4 apg in two games last week for B.U.
Seymour had a career-high 24 points on nine-of-14 shooting including six of eight three-pointers in a 60-58 win at New Hampshire on February 24th. He added 19 points on seven-of-17 shooting at Maine on February 26th. Three of his seven field goals were three-point field goals, giving the frosh 66 on the season. His 66 three-pointers are the third most in a season by a Terrier and the most by a freshman in America East since Delaware's John Gordon connected for 72 long-range jumpers in 1996-97.
In the month of February, Seymour shot 47.6 percent from the field (40-of-84), and 44.2 percent from three-point territory (23-of-52).
He leads the Terriers in scoring (11.8 ppg), free throw percentage (76.3 percent, 29-fo-38), three-point field goals made (66), attempted (175), and percentage (37.7 percent). Seymour has scored 20 or more points in a game a team-best four times this season and has reached double figures in 13-of-27 games.
Seymour and his teammates are the No. 8 seed on Friday, March 3rd when the 1999-2000 America East tournament begins. No. 8 Boston University (6-21, 5-13) and No. 9 Northeastern University (7-20, 5-13) get the championship started at 6 p.m. Friday night. The winner plays No. 1 seed Hofstra at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 4th.
B.U. has defeated Northeastern twice this season, 62-45 on January 8th, and 58-55 in a come-from-behind thriller on February 15th. The two Boston schools have combined to win 11 of the 20 America East championships, with the Huskies having taken a league-most seven titles, and B.U. winning four. The all-time series, which dates back to the 1920-21 season, is 119 games old with B.U. holding a slight 60-59 edge.
