Collins led four Terriers in double-figures. Junior Matt Turner (West Haven, CT) had 12 points, and sophomores Jason Grochowalski (Shrewsbury, MA) and Ryan Butt (Lancaster, PA) each chipped in 11 points.
Early in the first half junior Paul Seymour (Liverpool, NY) connected on two three-pointers to give B. U. a 15-12 lead, but One on One's Matt Carlin answered with a three-pointer to tie the score with 15:31 left in the half. The Terriers then went on a 9-2 run to take a 26-17 lead, but One on One responded with a 15-3 run of its own, culminating with a pair of three-pointers by Tim Fudd and Nii Nelson Richards to give the visiting team a 32-29 advantage with 3:24 left in the half.
Grochowalski closed out the half with two three-pointers on consecutive trips down the floor to give B. U. a 35-34 lead at the intermission.
The Terriers, playing in their only exhibition game of the season, steadily opened up a lead in the opening minutes of the second half. Butt scored six points on two short jumpers and a layup, and Collins hit a three-pointer to build B. U.'s lead to 14 points at 52-38 with 15:36 remaining. Butt scored nine of his 11 points in the second half.
Midway through the half, B. U. went on a 17-3 run to put the game away, as six different Terriers scored during the run. The spurt ended with a dunk from freshman Rashad Bell (Queens, NY), with the assist coming from classmate Chaz Carr (Manchester, CT) to put the Terriers up by 23 points with 4:52 to play. One on One trimmed the B. U. advantage in the last few minutes, but could get no closer than 10 points on a last-second three-pointer by Carlin.
"We had a good stretch in the first half when we got the eight-point lead," said Terrier head coach Dennis Wolff. "I thought the first 13 or 14 minutes of the second half we played pretty well. In the first half we relied too much on shooting jump shots, but in the second half we got the ball inside and got to the foul line."
Overall, the Terriers shot 29-for-62 from the field, including a 10-for-24 effort from the three-point line. The team hit 9-of-14 free throws. The Terriers outrebounded One on One 39-32.
One on One was led by Tim Fudd's game-high 17 points. Carlin and Richards each scored in double figures, with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Senior forward Ignacio Rodriguez led both teams with six rebounds.
Boston University opens its season on Tuesday, Nov. 13 against New Orleans in the first round of the Guardians Classic in Iowa City, Iowa. Game time at Iowa's Carver-Hawkeye Arena is 6:30 p.m. eastern. The Terriers will face either Iowa, ranked eighth in this week's ESPN/USA Today poll, or Maryland-Eastern Shore on Wednesday, Nov. 14.
