Women Finish Regular Season On Winning Note

The Terrier women's swimming team closed out its regular season on a positive note with an impressive 186-98 win over host University of Rhode Island on Saturday (February 3rd).
The women, who finished with a 2-6 dual meet record, still have two conference championships on the schedule. They will be at the University of Maine from February 16-18 for the America East Championships and then in Sewell, NJ from February 22-24 for the ECACs.
The win at Rhode Island enabled the Terriers to close out their season with wins in two of their last three meets. They swam to a 175-110 victory over Vermont on January 20th. Then, after dropping a 187-112 decision to Boston College, the Terriers enjoyed the win at Rhode Island.
"It was a good way for our women to close out the season," said head coach Reagh Wetmore. "It was a very successful afternoon as the score indicates, and we won 11-of-16 events."
Three Terriers were double winners in individual events. They were:
- Junior Christina Chen (Tacoma, WA) won both the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle in times of 1:08.37 and :54.70, respectively.
- Freshman Kelli Sweeting (Sarasota, FL) dominated the backstroke en route to winning both the 100 (1:01.20) and 200 (2:10.25).
- Sophomore Karissa Lopez (Santa Fe, NM) won the 100 fly (:59.83) and the 200 individual medley (2:13.67).
The Terriers also won the 200 medley relay and the day’s final event - the 400 freestyle relay.
The 200 medley included Chen, Lopez, sophomore Meg O’Neill (Chattanooga, TN), and freshman Amanda Kim (Northridge, CA), and they were timed in 1:54.10.
The 400 relay was consisted on Kim, Sweeting, senior Kerry Kusz (Iron Mountain, MI), and senior Corey Cooper (Springfield, VA), and they were clocked in 3:51.08.
