Gallacher Dominates Diving Events To Lead Terriers At Conference Meet

Junior Stacey Gallacher won the one-meter dive, while she finished second at three meters to lead the Terrier women's swimming and diving team to a fourth-place finish at last weekend's (February 14-16) America East Championships hosted by the University of Maine.
Northeastern won the team title with 821.50 points with New Hampshire finishing second with 774.50 points. Next, in order, came Binghamton (518), BOSTON UNIVERSITY (489.50), Maine (384), Stony Brook (219.50), and Vermont (188).
Gallacher (Horseheads, NY) captured the one-meter event with a score of 279.10 points and was second in the three-meter event with 414.75 points. For her overall performances, she was named the Women's Outstanding Diver of the Year, while Terrier coach Agnes Miller was named the Women's Outstanding Diving Coach of the Year. Miller was also named the Men's Outstanding Diving Coach of the Year, as she guided the male divers to a 1-4-5 finish in both the one-meter and three-meter competition.
In the women's diving events, the Terriers finished 1-4 as Kristen Stratton (Aurora, CO) was fourth at one meter with 230.70 points. In the three-meter event, the Terriers finished 2-5-6. Gallacher was second behind Northeastern's Adela Gavzdea, who totaled 497.70 points. Stratton was fifth with 377.20 points, while Heather Foley (Lake Quivira, KS) was sixth with 323.60 points.
Among the swimmers, senior captain Karissa Lopez (Santa Fe, NM) was the Terriers' top performer as she swam in seven events-three individual and four relays. Her best finish, and the best of anyone on the Terrier team with the exception of Gallacher's first in the one-meter dive, was second in the 400 individual medley. She was also fifth in the 200 IM, and fourth in the 200 fly. In addition, she swam on the 800 freestyle relay that was third, on both the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay that finished fourth, and the 400 medley relay that finished fifth. In all, she had a role in 166 total points.
Below is a list of events in which Terriers advanced to the finals and where they placed.
The 200 freestyle relay: The Terriers were fourth in 1:39.36, as New Hampshire won the event in 1:39.36. B.U.'s swimmers were Lauren Foster (Lake Quivira, KA), Kila Englebrook (Mechanicsburg, PA), Natalie Boyd (McKeesport, PA), and Meagan Breiland (Mesa, AZ).
The 500 freestyle: Foster was fifth with a time of 5:10.36. New Hampshire's Shannon Daly, who was selected America East's Women's Outstanding Swimmer of the Year, won the event in 4:57.67.
The 200 individual medley: Lopez was fifth in 2:10.07. New Hampshire's Melissa Lague took first with a time of 2:06.24.
The 50 freestyle: Breiland was clocked in :25.03, which placed eighth. Northeastern's Jaime Crowley won the event in :23.78.
The 400 medley relay: The foursome of Kelli Sweeting (Sarasota, FL), Laurie Green (St. John's Newfoundland), Lopez, and Breiland finished fifth in 4:02.30. Binghamton turned in the winning time of 3:52.02.
The 200 medley relay: The Terriers finished fourth as the foursome of Courtlandt McKinlay (Cheshire, CT), Green, Lopez, and Breiland turned in a time of 1:50.94. Northeastern won the event in 1:47.05.
The 400 individual medley: Lopez finished second with a time of 4:30.48, less than two seconds slower than the winning time of 4:28.60 turned in by New Hampshire's Kristen Nardozzi.
The 200 freestyle: Foster was fifth with a time of 1:54.39. New Hampshire's Daly was first with a time of 1:51.73.
The 100 breaststroke: Laurie Green was clocked in 1:09.60 which placed her seventh. The event was won by Northeastern's Katherine Kane in 1:05.78.
The 800 freestyle relay: Lopez, Boyd, Englebrook, and Foster combined efforts for a 7:47.28, which ranked third. New Hampshire was first in 7:38.01.
The 1650 freestyle: Ingrid Salazar (Simi Valley, CA) was third in 17:35.48. New Hampshire's Nardozzi won the event in 17:17.25.
The 200 breaststroke: Green was fifth in 2:27.28. UNH's Daly won the event in 2:18.96.
The 200 butterfly: Lopez was the Terriers' top finisher with a time of 2:07.20, which placed fourth. Binghamton's Yun Qu took first in 2:01.21.
The 400 freestyle relay: The Terriers finished fourth with a time of 3:34.39. The four swimmers were Breiland, Boyd, Lopez, and Foster. Binghamton won the event with a time of 3:28.38.
The dives: Gallacher led the way for the Terriers as she joined with Stratton and Foley to score a total of 69 points.
