Terriers Blanked By Rutgers In Women's Soccer Classic

The host Rutgers women's soccer team scored an early first-half goal and added two more in the second half to defeat the Terriers, 3-0, on Friday in the first round of the Rutgers DoubleTree Classic.
The Terriers, who are now 2-2 this season, will try to bounce back on Sunday afternoon when it plays St. Johns at 2:00 p.m.
Friday's game was a rematch of last year's first round of the NCAA Tournament, and the Terriers ended up on the short end of the score again as the Scarlet Knights eliminated B.U. from the tournament by a 4-1 margin.
In Friday's game, Scarlet Knights took an early 1-0 lead when Shannon Evans scored her first Rutgers goal in the 12th minute. Lissette Brandao headed Boo Schubert's corner kick to the far post, allowing Evans to punch the ball in on the goal line. The shot beat Terrier junior keeper Jessica Clinton (Valley Stream, NY) Sophomore all-American Carli Lloyd made the score 2-0 with her fourth goal of the year in the 58th minute. Senior Erin McIntyre (sent a ball up the left side, which was picked up by Schubert and sent to junior Samantha Swerdloff in the middle of the box. Swerdloff found Lloyd at the far corner, and Lloyd maneuvered past a defender and let a shot go from 16 yards. Junior Adrienne Dugandzic scored the final Rutgers goal in the 69th minute when McIntyre once again sent a long ball up the left side. Dugandzic ran onto it and carried up the middle, scoring from 15 yards. Senior Christine Caldwell made four saves, earning her third shutout of the season, while Clinton had three saves for the Terriers.
B.U., which was outshot, 4-2, in the first half enjoyed the edge in the second half, outshooting the Scarlet Knights, 6-3, in the second half. In the end, the Terriers outshot Rutgers for the game, 8-7. The Terriers also had an advantage in corners, 5-3.
The Terriers were rated fifth by Soccerbuzz and sixth by the NSCAA in the Northeast Region, while Rutgers was rated seventh by Soccerbuzz and 10th by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in the Mid-Atlantic Region this week.
