Newton, Mass. - The ninth-ranked Boston University men's soccer team had its four-game win streak snapped, falling to 21st-ranked Boston College, 2-1, at the Newton Campus Soccer Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
The Terriers (4-2-1) fell behind early in the first half when Jonathon Munko received on a give-and-go from Neil Krause. Munko forced B.U. senior goalkeeper Matt Smith (Lanchester, England) to commit, and punched a shot past Smith's right shoulder for the score at 32:02.
With less than a minute remaining before the break, the Terriers rallied off an Eagle foul. Taking a free kick from 30 feet out, junior midfielder Andrew Dorman (Flintshire, Wales) fired a bullet past the wall of B.C. players and into the top right corner of the net beyond the reach of Eagle goalkeeper Kyle Singer. With 43 seconds remaining in the half, the score was even at 1-1.
Bill Arnualt lifted a corner kick and Oktay Kilic placed a header into the top right corner for the game-winner at 53:07.
"At times we played better than we've played all season," said Terrier head coach Neil Roberts.
"We had chances but we just couldn't finish. Its unfortunate that we couldn't get another goal, but overall I thought it was a good performance."
Singer earned his fourth win of the season with four saves. Smith made seven stops for the game, including six in the first half.
The Eagles (4-1-0) held a 19-16 advantage on shots, while the Terriers led in corner kicks, 10-6.
"It takes big plays to win games like these," said Roberts. "They got the big plays, we didn't. But I still feel this game was a step in the right direction."
The Terriers have the opportunity to start a new win streak when they travel to the University of Rhode Island to take on the Rams this Saturday (Sept. 28) at 1 p.m.
