Chin Dominates In Terriers' 3-1 Win Over Minutemen
September 6, 2002 | Men's Soccer

Boston - Freshman midfielder Sedrick Chin (St. Mary's, Jamaica) scored a goal and had two assists while leading the B.U. men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Massachusetts in its home opener in front of 2,107 on Friday night (September 6).
The Terriers (1-1-1), who had just one goal in their two previous games, dominated time of possession in the first half and used Chin to spark the attack.
"Sedrick is a very talented player," said Terrier head coach Neil Roberts. "He's a freshman, but he doesn't play like a true freshman."
Junior forward Alan McNamara (Woodview Raheem, Ireland) scored B.U.'s first goal of the game at 21:20, tipping a shot by Chin into the lower left corner of the net past UMass goalkeeper Enzo Altomare.
Chin scored his first collegiate goal and the game winner at 78:07 when senior back David Fahey (Plainfield, NJ) sent a long pass from right to left across the box and found Chin for a wide open shot on goal. Sophomore midfielder Federico Bianchi (Pacific Palisades, CA) also earned an assist on Chin's goal.
UMass answered a minute later, as Jeff Deren forced Terrier goalkeeper Matt Smith (Lancaster, England) to commit at the top of the box, and scored off a feed from Derek Rhodes at 79:08 to narrow the gap to one goal.
"We had a little lapse on defense when we gave up that goal," said Roberts. "But we got another one back quick. We attacked real well tonight and were able to get our backs into the offense."
Chin iced the game when he found senior back EA Carr (Independence, OH) on a breakaway down the left sideline. Carr placed a hard shot into the lower left corner of the net at 88:53 to score his first career goal.
Smith earned his first win of the season, making two saves. Altomare made three saves in the loss.
Next up, the Terriers host Fairfield University on Tuesday, September 10, at 7:00 p.m.
