Gladstone Will Not Play For Men's Basketball Team
October 1, 2003 | Men's Basketball
BOSTON - Bret Gladstone, a 6-foot-1 guard who was set to play for the Boston University men's basketball team this season, has been forced to shorten his B. U. playing career due to undisclosed medical reasons.
Gladstone, a transfer from the University of Virginia, where he averaged 1.7 points per game in six contests as a freshman in 2001-02, was to be eligible to suit up for the Terriers at the beginning of the second semester.
Gladstone's father, Steve, was a former men's basketball player and team captain at Boston University from 1967-70.
B. U. comes off a 2002-03 season in which it went 20-11, won its second straight America East regular-season championship, made its first-ever consecutive post-season appearances when it played in the NIT, and won 20-or-more games in back-to-back seasons for the first time in 14 years.
The Terriers will go for an unprecedented three straight 20+ win seasons, starting with their 2003-04 season-openers at Holy Cross on Nov. 22. Helping the cause will be an America East All-Conference First Team selection in junior Rashad Bell and senior veterans Kevin Fitzgerald, Ryan Butt, Matt Turner, and Jason Grochowalski.
