Terriers' Depth Proves Pivotal In Win Over Stony Brook

BOSTON, MA--The Terrier women's swimming and diving team showed both quality and quantity on Saturday, Nov. 22, en route to posting a 180-119 win over Stony Brook for the Terriers' first win of the season.
The quality came from winning 10 of the 16 events, while the quantity came from 10 second-place finishes
Sophomore standout Lidija Breznikar (Kotjpe, Slovenia) continued her undefeated ways as she won the 200 fly, the 200 breaststroke, and the 400 individual medley. The latter event was new for her, as she had competed in the 200 IM in the team's earlier meets. But, she responded in the 400 by setting a team and pool record 4:30.35. She also won the 200 fly in 2:08.91 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:24.31.
Other notable performers included sophomore Meagan Breiland (Mesa, AZ), who won two events-the 50-yard freestyle in :25.14 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in :54.14 seconds. She also locked in a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a last leg split time of :24.98. The winning relay also included junior Lauren Foster (Lake Quivira, KS), sophomore Hannah Mulry (Macungie, PA), and freshman Marina Morie (Honolulu, HI).
In diving, the Terrier women again swept the top three positions in both the one- and three-meter dives. At one meter, senior Stacey Gallacher (Horseheads, NY) led the field with a score of 264.22. She was followed by senior Kristin Stratton (Aurora, CO) with 233.41 points and freshman Megan White (Falmouth, ME) with 227.70 points.
In the three-meter competition, White edged the competition to get her first win of the season with a personal-best score of 239.92 points. Stratton and Gallacher trailed with 236.85 and 236.70 points, respectively. Freshman Selena Herdman (Melville, NY) took first in the 1000-yard freestyle with an improved time of 10:47:06 minutes, and sophomore Natalie Boyd (Pittsburgh, PA) swam a season-best time of 5:18:06 to win the 500-yard freestyle.
Junior Emily Moreno (Oakland, NJ) and Foster led the list of runners-up. Moreno placed second in both the 200-yard fly (2:13:69) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:22:37), while Foster was runnerup in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:56:80 and in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00:39. Finally, senior Kelli Sweeting (Sarasota, FL) swam a personal-best for the season 2:11:3 in the 100-yard backstroke, missing first place by only six one-hundredths of a second, and Morie took second in the 100-yard freestyle in :55.51
The B.U. women swim next against another conference opponent, the University of Maine, in a 1:00 PM home meet on Saturday, December 6.
