December 4, 2003 | Men's Basketball
BOSTON - The Boston University men's basketball program has received National Letters of Intent from Ben Coblyn, a 6-foot-8 forward from Amherst, Mass., Tony Gaffney, a 6-foot-7 forward from Northfield, Mass., Bryan Geffen, a 5-foot-10 guard from Fresh Meadow, N. Y, and Matt Wolff, a 6-foot-5 guard from Walpole, Mass.
"Knowing that we are losing a very successful senior class after this season, it was important to bring in the type of players that we have in this upcoming class," said Wolff.
The Terriers will graduate five seniors after this season, including four captains who have played a large part in the team's recent success.
As a junior in 2002-03, Coblyn was the driving force behind Amherst High School's Massachusetts Division I State Championship, averaging close to 16 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocked shots per game.
An All-State performer for Somerset High School, Gaffney averaged 23 points and 12 rebounds, leading the team to the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional Championship as a senior. He is currently playing a post-graduate year at Northfield Mount Hermon School in Northfield, Mass.
Geffen has led the Terriers of St. Francis Prep in scoring the last two seasons. He was an All-Queens Second-Team selection as a junior at St. Francis Prep.
Wolff averaged 19 points and nine rebounds for Walpole High School as a junior, leading it to the league championship. He is the son of Terrier men's basketball head coach Dennis Wolff.
The class of 2008 will begin classes and join the basketball team in September 2004.
